Random Thoughts from a Political Junkie

Time to put down that proverbial bottle. Election is over and I was wrong. Dead wrong. Do I care that I was wrong? Some. Am I upset that Kerry lost? Sure. Am I the most upset that Bush won? Yes. But let's remember that I was wrong, but it were 59 million people who have screwed themselves.

Perhaps now it is time to analyze what happened and to see what do we want (and can) do about it.

1. American people spoke. And I do not like what they had to say. Apparently keeping those gays from possibly ever engaging in matrimony is more important then ANYTHING else. Oy. The issues do not matter. Morality does. It's the morality, stupid. Let's hope that those people know how to pray when they have no health insurance, jobs, social security and can't file bankruptcy among other things. And that's before we get to the foreign policy.
2. Karl Rove is a genius. He tore the country apart, but his half was larger.
3. Atrios has a pretty good list of what's to come from this administration:
"1) "privatized" Social Security. 2) "Medical Savings Accounts." 3) Tort reform. The "Moron-American Act of 2005." You get what you wish for, I guess. 4) Bankruptcy reform. Oh Lord help us.5) Enviornment. Well, everything. 6) Tax cuts. Oh, just let them have their goddamn tax cuts. The bond market'll snap like a twig at some point." For details on that you can always read Paul Krugman. Bush's agenda is going to hurt but it's going to happen. Again, Atrios does not address here how Bush victory will affect US worldwide.
4. Young voters are apparently not as important as religious voters. But voting is still cool, important and must be encouraged at all costs. At least this way, people will feel that they have lost something that they cared about it. Like freedom.
5. May be whoever is running the democratic ship next time around, can put Marijuana legalization initiatives on ballots in several states, and see if that drives up the turn out on our side.
6. There will be more, but let me tell you, Thank God for the NBA! Already on November 2nd, I was able to mentally disengage from the horror that is the Election, and switch to the disconnected pleasantness of the new NBA season. It's time to learn who is playing on what team and what happened to the Divisions that have been re-aligned.
7. Can you believe that Democrats have met every goal and every omen and still lost? I would like to hear more about Diebold and its paperless magic.
8. Is Bush totally scandal proof or is he just in total control of the government?
9. Could it be that now that Bush seems on absolute top of the world something will happen to change that? Like an intern?
10. At this point I certainly have more questions then answers.
